Talk to family and friends whose reps aren't supporting the Safe Communities Act This action is finished

Places like Concord, Acton, Framingham, Needham, and Waltham are important areas for getting support for the Safe Communities Act (learn more about it). Reach out to people you know in those areas or other parts of Massachusetts and ask them to tell their state senator and state representative (find them here) to support the bill. Things to keep in mind if your friends and family themselves need persuading:

- immigrants do work that we all depend on. If they all disappeared, our economy wouldn't get better - it would grind to a halt.

- immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than native-born citizens.

- scarcity of good work with living wages is a real problem, but it was not caused by immigration. It was caused by allowing corporations to choose profits over people: outsourcing jobs, automating jobs away, keeping wages stagnant, and suppressing unions. You don't need to fight with immigrants over pittances when CEOs are getting away with millions.

- Trump has changed the rules for deportations to essentially prioritize the deportation of all undocumented immigrants rather than to prioritize the deportation of undocumented immigrants who have committed violent crimes. The Safe Communities Act will keep state and local police from helping ICE deport people who aren't even dangerous.

Follow the Immigrants' Rights in MA slate to get notified if there's a phonebanking drive to contact progressives in MA whose representatives don't yet support the bill for a way to do this on a larger scale.
